Aging gracefully these days is not worth the hassle. Once there are wrinkles, fine lines and hollowed out skin on your face there really is no turning back. Luckily there are valuable facial techniques that can help restore the beauty of your skin. Non-surgical cosmetic procedures have risen significantly over the past decade. They are no longer something that celebrities alone resort to but people outside the famous circles are confused by all of the misconceptions that they hear about dermal fillers. If you are considering undergoing this procedure to gently replenish your skin then it is vital to know the truth about this procedure.
Here are some common myths debunked by our Tampa plastic surgeon, Dr. Jaime Perez.
Myth 1 – Botox is a filler
This myth causes the most confusion among potential consumers. Botox is not a filler! Botox is one of many types of injectable relaxers. It is injected and relaxes targeted muscles of the face. When a certain expression is made, the muscle and skin become so relaxed that the muscle and skin do not contract, inturn, easing the lines and wrinkles associated with crows feet, furrowed brows and forehead lines. Dermal fillers do exactly what they claim to. They fill those stubborn wrinkles and add volume to areas that have lost fullness over time .
Myth 2 – Fillers are extremely painful
Most dermal fillers are a concoction of sterile gel and hyaluronic acid, which is found naturally in human skin. Your doctor may use a topical numbing agent or a local anesthetic if you are having work done on a particularly sensitive area. Any sort of injection is going to bring mild discomfort, but the result is fuller, refreshed and glowing skin! Fillers have been rated a completely tolerable 2.5 on a 1-10 pain scale and discomfort resides rather quickly.
Myth 3 – Everyone will notice you had work done
Dermal fillers are nothing like having invasive cosmetic surgery. Fillers, such as Juvederm, Restylane and Perlane are non-invasive and convey moderate, natural looking results. The only way anyone is going to know about your personal choice to have dermal filling is if you make the personal choice to share that knowledge with them. Your business with us is 100% confidential, so we won’t be telling any secrets.
Myth 4 – Once it’s done, it can’t be undone
This fear is irrelevant. In the case of fillers, most usually last only three months to a year. So if you decide that you dislike the results you can choose to wait it out or go for option two. Your doctor can reverse the look with a second injection that will repeal the results of dermal fillers.
Post Surgery Reminder
As it was stated before, dermal fillers may cause slight discomfort when being performed. There is no need to take pain relievers, but light ice compressions can be used to minimize lingering swelling and redness. To avoid further swelling and bruising refrain from taking aspirin, vitamin E or exercising until your doctor allows you to do so.
