November 30, 2012 | Body Contouring, Liposuction
4 minute read
Well, it always seems as though spring is just around the corner, and with the way time goes by now it is more than ever the case. So, it is time to start thinking about swimsuits and little summer dresses. And let’s face it – sometimes we need just a little help!
Have you lost weight, and weigh close to or what you want to weigh? Do you also have some areas that will simply not lose their fat? This is not an uncommon thing to experience, especially as we get older. If you have not thought of it before, think of it now – liposuction may be just what you need to rid yourself of small pockets of fatty tissue that just won’t go away through diet and exercise.
It should be noted that liposuction is a shaping tool for those hard or impossible to get rid of fat areas. These are usually around the abdomen flank, back, chin/neck, arms, thighs, and legs.
What Liposuction is Not
Liposuction is not a weight control technique – the ideal candidate for liposuction is a woman with good skin tone who is at or very close to their target weight.
Modern liposuction uses many of the same tools as traditional liposuction, but there are many more tools now that are available to the doctors. Dr. Jaime Perez has more than fifteen years’ experience in liposuction and has perfected his technique. Technical advances as well as general surgical advances, as well as the way liposuction was thought about have resulted in a procedure that allows for much more subtlety.
When you have specific areas of fat that are just not coming off, come in for a free consultation. There Dr. Perez will also fully explain the procedure, but before any consultation it is good to have a few questions ready. We will go over the basic language of the liposuction here.
New Techniques Offer Better Results
Dr. Perez will not just ‘suck the fat out’ – his goal is to ‘sculpt’ the body through the tools available and the techniques he has perfected. The end result of this style of liposuction is a much more flowing, symmetrical end result which improves the over-all contour of the body and ensures smooth transitions between all body parts.
Prior to the procedure there may be some ultrasonic devices used to break up the fatty tissue deposits inside the skin. Whether or not this is done, the areas of interest are marked off on the body, and the areas of operation are injected with a combination of anesthetic and a vasoconstrictant. The anesthetic is to relieve post op pain, as these procedures are generally performed under general anaesthesia.
Most patients will go home the same day of the procedure, and in Florida the maximum amount of fatty tissue that can be removed is four liters of material.
Once the anesthetic mixture is injected, small incisions (1 cm) will be made to allow the cannula (a long, hollow metal tube, this is what actually sucks the fatty deposits out of your body) access to the areas to be sculpted.
There are different types of liposuction; Dr. Perez uses all of these in his efforts to make your body fit the image that you have in your mind. They include ultrasonic liposuction as well as laser and water, or body jet, liposuction.
Recovery times vary, but patients should count on not being able to work for at least one to two weeks, and antibiotics and pain medications are generally prescribed as precautions after the surgery. Take all antibiotics whenever they are prescribed.
If you have lost weight but can’t get rid of unsightly fat somewhere on your body, call or come in for a consultation to see what options are available to you. In some cases, local anesthetic may be used right in Dr. Perez’s new Plastic Surgery Center of Tampa. Start getting ready for bikini season now!
