Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) Surgery

Few curves are more desired than a bouncy, voluptuous booty. Yet the effects of aging, genetics, pregnancy, weight loss, and weight gain leave many women and men with a flat, square, or sagging derrière.

A Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) by Dr. Jaime Perez in Tampa, FL, uses liposuction and fat grafting to produce fuller, firmer, sexier buttocks. Men and women are making BBL one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the country because it uses natural fat instead of implants to enhance the buttocks. Could a BBL be right for you?

What Is a BBL?

The Brazilian Butt Lift, or BBL, is a procedure designed to improve the size, shape, and appearance of the backside.

This advanced procedure combines the techniques of liposuction and fat transfer to create more natural-looking effects than a traditional butt lift, a gluteal lift that cuts away skin to reshape the rear, or butt augmentation that uses implants. The BBL procedure can also address stubborn pockets of fat cells in the abdomen, thighs, and flanks to slim and refine your entire figure.

Am I a Candidate for BBL?

The ideal BBL candidate is generally healthy, does not smoke, and has realistic expectations. It’s also necessary to have pinchable fat that can be harvested from other areas of the body.

To find out if you’re a good candidate for a BBL, schedule a consultation with us by calling (813) 877-3739 today.

How Is a BBL Performed?

The entire procedure takes approximately two hours and is performed on an outpatient basis, meaning the patient can go home the same day. Dr. Perez upholds the highest standards for this procedure, performing every BBL with ultrasound guidance.

Liposuction

First, excess fat is harvested from the patient’s thighs, sides, or abdomen using liposuction. Dr. Perez will determine the optimal site to harvest the tissue, taking into consideration the patient’s stature, shape, and goals. This part of the procedure not only provides the necessary fat, but also allows Dr. Perez to sculpt and contour a complementary silhouette.

“An advanced liposuction is done very gently to improve and accentuate the curves. You end up with a small waist, then transfer fat in the hips, and essentially end up with curvy and nice, round buttocks.” —Dr. Perez

Refinement

The collected fat is processed using a centrifuge to ensure that only the healthiest, highest-quality tissue is selected for grafting.

Fat Grafting

Next, the processed fat is placed through two small incisions (less than one cm) just above the gluteal muscle. When injecting the fatty tissue into the buttocks, Dr. Perez will precisely place volume where it is needed to create a “lift” while forming sexy and well-proportioned buttocks without the scars and extra surgery traditionally required.

Final Steps

Finally, the small incisions are closed. Compression garments are then placed on the patient.

What Is BBL Recovery Like?

For the first two weeks after surgery, patients should avoid sitting for prolonged periods of time. Putting excessive pressure on the newly grafted tissue in the buttocks can cause fat cells to die and reduce the effectiveness of this augmentation procedure.

Recovery times vary, but patients usually return to work after one to two weeks and must wear compression garments for six weeks. Dr. Perez will schedule follow-up consultations at our Tampa office to monitor your recovery and determine when it is safe to resume exercise and other activities.

What Results Can I Expect From a BBL?

While your buttocks will be noticeably larger immediately, it will take some time for the final results to settle. Some fat cells may be removed by the body, which is perfectly natural. After the first few months, your final results will become increasingly visible.

BBL results are generally long-lasting. You may lose some firmness as you age, but your initial results will persist longer if you maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle.

It’s important to remember that the fat cells placed in your buttocks will behave like any other fat cells in your body: they can shrink if you lose weight or grow if you gain weight.

Understand the Risks to Make an Informed Decision

There has been a lot of recent press coverage regarding the safety of the popular cosmetic surgery known as BBL. This surgery, popularized by certain celebrities, is one of the fastest-growing aesthetic procedures in the United States. Like every surgery, when not performed by adequately trained professionals in an accredited facility, this form of buttock augmentation can be risky and even deadly. With certifications in both plastic and general surgery, Dr. Perez has an advanced understanding of how to minimize the risks associated with this buttock-enhancing treatment.

He is dedicated to maintaining BBL safety by implementing only the safest techniques at our Tampa practice. This is especially important considering a report by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) that found the mortality rate for the Brazilian Butt Lift could be as high as 1:3000. This is higher than any other commonly performed elective plastic surgery procedure.

Because of this, the ASPS, the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS), and the International Federation for Adipose Therapeutics and Science formed the Task Force for Safety in Gluteal Fat Grafting. After much research, the task force came up with a set of guidelines designed to improve the performance and safety of the Brazilian Butt Lift.

We Follow All BBL Safety Guidelines

Certification Requirement

The Brazilian Butt Lift should only be performed by experienced, board-certified plastic surgeons like Dr. Perez.

Patient Position

Proper patient positioning, such as the jack-knife position, should be utilized to avoid inadvertent entry into the gluteal muscles.

Surgical Requirements

Strict attention should be paid to the patient’s overall health, vital signs, and temperature before, during, and after BBL surgery. Dr. Perez only performs this procedure using ultrasound guidance to ensure the best results for all patients.

Cannula Type

Fat should only be injected with blunt-tip cannulas. As Dr. Perez’ patient, you can expect that your treatment will be performed using only the very safest technology and techniques to minimize any risks associated with a Brazilian Butt Lift.

Injection Area

Fat should not be injected anywhere near the deep pelvic vessels, specifically the gluteal veins and arteries. Fat should be injected only in the subcutaneous layer of the buttocks (i.e., the plane of tissues under the skin and above the gluteus maximus muscle).

Injection Quantity

A maximum of four liters of pure fat can be removed in one surgical session. Your safety is Dr. Perez’s top priority. Under his care, you can rest assured that he will not exceed this amount when performing the liposuction necessary to achieve the results you desire.
