Am I a Good Mommy Makeover Candidate?
Dr. Perez can discuss your mommy makeover candidacy in detail during your no-pressure consultation, which can be done in our Tampa, FL, plastic surgery office or virtually from the comfort of your home. But in general, you are a good candidate if:
- You do not have a history of blood clots, clotting disorders, cancer, or miscarriages.
- You are not taking birth control pills, which can increase the risk of post-surgery blood clots.
- Your overall health is good and your weight has been stable over the past 6-12 months.
- You are near your ideal body weight.
- You do not plan on having more children and your last child was born at least nine months before procedures are scheduled.

Recovery Garments
Immediately after surgery, patients are placed in compression garments that must be worn for six weeks to help support and shape the healing tissues. If drains are placed, they are generally removed in the office in 7-10 days.
Recovery Period
Recovery times following a mommy makeover vary, but patients are generally able to return to work in one to two weeks, enjoy light exercise in about three weeks, and experience full recovery after five to six weeks.

Are Mommy Makeovers Safe?
Many moms put off cosmetic surgery because they are worried that something may go wrong during the procedure. Safety is of the utmost importance at Dr. Perez’s surgical practice. Our on-site surgical center is staffed with experienced board-certified anesthesiologists and certified operating room nurses. Dr. Perez follows all standard safety guidelines. For example, fat removed during liposuction treatments of any kind cannot exceed set maximum limits.
Dr. Perez will not schedule several mommy makeover procedures for a patient on the same day, as this can be physically taxing on the patient’s body. Instead, he will separate the procedures by a few months to allow the patient to heal properly.
Despite our high patient satisfaction rate, there are very rare but possible side effects that can occur:
Blood Clots
Occasionally, tummy tucks can result in blood clots in the legs and lungs. However, this only occurs in approximately 1% of patients.
Wound Breakdowns
A small percentage of tummy tuck patients may experience minor wound breakdowns, fluid buildup under the skin, or contour irregularities on the sides of the incision.
Unusual Bleeding
1-3% of breast surgery patients may experience unusual bleeding, while less than 1% develop an infection related to an implant.
Permanent Sensitivity
Any change in breast or nipple sensation after surgery is typically temporary. Only 15% of patients have permanent sensitivity issues.
